How Diabetes Is Diagnosed

There are three ways to diagnose diabetes, but one - the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test - is preferred.
-
An FPG value greater or equal to 126 mg/dl (confirmed by repeating the test) is diagnostic for diabetes.
-
A Casual (not fasting) Plasma Glucose of greater than or equal to 200 mg/dl with the signs and symptoms of diabetes.
-
An oral glucose tolerance test with a two-hour plasma glucose greater than or equal to 200 mg/dl.
